John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs that he wrote, many of which were situated in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. Take Me Home Country Roads written by co-writer Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff wrote the song in conjunction with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver saw an early rendition he knew right away it was destined to be the next hit single. The song was performed at Washington D.C. to a huge crowd, the singer released the song a couple of days afterward.
